Prayer for the New Year

Come Holy God,

who has been with us this past year,

who has laughed with us, and cried with us,

who has cradled us in goodness and love.

Bless us with a joy to continue to seek you.

……………………………………………………………..

Come Holy God,

As we stand on the cusp of new beginnings

As we stand with eyes fixed on the future

As we stand with open hands

welcoming you to come with us,

Bless us with desire to continue to seek you.

…………………………………………………………….

Come Holy God,

In anticipation of what may be waiting for us,

In anticipation of what memories we will make,

In anticipation of the surprises that await us.

Bless us with wisdom to recognise you

in the new days, weeks and months ahead.

Advent 2 … an Advent hymn

Advent hymns are a source of great comfort, so i felt the need to write some words to a familiar tune ( O come, O come Emmanuel)

A candle flickers bright with Hope,

To hail the Prince of Peace will come!

Now Mary’s waiting patiently,

When heaven and earth at one give birth.

O Joy of Christ!

Bring now your gift of life

To all who search for Truth and Light.

…………………………………………

When people heard that time has come

The world had watched for signs above;

The refugees looked longingly

To be release from bonds unseen.

O Hope of Christ!

Bring now your gift of life

To all who search for Truth and Light.

…………………………………………………..

The chaos of the world around

Was soothed by one voice calling loud!

Hail Mary! Now a son comes to you;

Her fear is real and so is ours too.

O Peace of Christ!

Bring now your gift of life

To all who search for Truth and Light.

…………………………………………………

Deep caverns of the darkness broods

o’er nations and your people here.

The yearning is still urgent and strong

To free us with your Light beyond our sight.

O Love of Christ!

Bring now your Gift of Life

To all who search for Truth and Light.

Advent 1… The Hopes and Fears

cropped-mp900402206-1.jpgThe waiting time is upon us!!.

Waiting for gifts we have purchased to come to our doors, waiting at the queues in a supermarket, waiting for the nativity play to start, waiting to sing the first Christmas carol, waiting for peace in our world, waiting for poverty to be eradicated, waiting , waiting … and waiting some more.!  In our ‘waiting’ we mull over in our minds what and why we are ‘waiting’, and in our rush to get to the main reason of waiting, we forget about the way in which God waits with us.

God is used to waiting. God waits with us when we are expecting to hear good news or bad news, God waits with us in our physical hunger and in our spiritual hunger.

In Advent, we wait for ‘something ‘ to happen, ‘something’ that will change the world upside down, something that will address all the hopes we have and all the fears we have accumulated. And God waits with us and our’ the hopes and fears of all the years’.

This Advent, let us remind ourselves of how people ‘wait’ from different cultures and background, and God is waiting with them, in their hopes and their fears for the future.

Waiting God,

When our hearts beats fast with anticipation, still us and wait with us.

When our mind races ahead to the end result, still us and wait with us.

If we become impatient and fearful, still us and wait with us

If we yearn for something we cannot articulate, still us and wait with us.

For your goodness and love come to us this Advent time, to wait for the coming Babe of Bethlehem, who will bring hope to all people and nations.

Amen
