My grace is sufficient for you 2 Corinthians 12:9
Grace is used by Paul over and over again in his letters. Paul identifies Grace as God’s outpouring of love, forgiveness and transformation, and activity towards the whole of humankind and creation.
It is an essential attribute of God, however Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the renowned 20th century Lutheran pastor, who died at the hands of the Nazis towards the end of World War two, says that it does require a ‘recognition’ from us, of our wrongdoings, of our selfishness and that if we do not confess, we otherwise have ‘cheap grace’.
In Corinthians, Paul is explaining that no matter what our weaknesses are, God’s grace is sufficient for us, no questions asked.
This is the most humbling, characteristic of God, that in our weakness, we become strong, by God’s grace.
God who is grace itself,
Who brings grace into our lives,
challenge us to live in gracious harmony with you
and with our neighbour, and
to speak of your grace to others. Amen
