Saturday 3rd December   2 Corinthians 12:9

My grace is sufficient for you   2 Corinthians 12:9

Grace is used by Paul over and over again in his letters. Paul identifies Grace as God’s outpouring of love, forgiveness and transformation, and activity towards the whole of humankind and creation.

It is an essential attribute of God, however Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the renowned 20th century Lutheran pastor, who died at the hands of the Nazis towards the end of World War two, says  that it does require a ‘recognition’ from us, of our wrongdoings, of our selfishness and that if we do not confess, we otherwise have ‘cheap grace’.

In Corinthians, Paul is explaining that no matter what our weaknesses are, God’s grace is sufficient for us, no questions asked.

This is the most humbling, characteristic of God, that in our weakness, we become strong, by God’s grace.

God who is grace itself,

Who brings grace into our lives,

challenge us to live in gracious harmony with you

and with our neighbour, and

to speak of your grace to others. Amen

Advent Friday 2nd December Psalm 33:5

The earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord      Psalm 33:5

A question.

Describe the love of the Lord.

It’s difficult because you cannot fully explain it.

Is it a feeling?

Is it a knowing?

Can you sense it.?

It is all these things and more.

God’s love cannot be bound by time and space, but is far-reaching, diverse, all embracing and all consuming. Omnipotent and omnipresent. It is by faith that we accept and believe that God loves us, as we are, just as we are, with our faults and failing.

How wonderful to live I the knowledge that the earth is brimming with the love of the Lord.

Generous God,

Hold us and embrace us with your love, fill us with your promise, so as we grow, allow the earth to flourish with your love for all creation. Amen
