Christmas day 2017

advent star smallGod Immanuel. God is with us!

The day has arrived when we celebrate with all humanity and creation the birth of the brightest start in heaven and earth. This is the day we have been waiting for, the day which will bring the Hope, Promise, Joy and Love.

On that unique night, I wonder how many people knew about the birth of Jesus, God Immanuel? Did the word spread quickly that shepherds were visiting a stable?

A bright star in the sky may not have been noticed by many as they were busy with the census, yet for some, it heralded the start of a new chapter of faith and belief.

The expectation of a wonderful Counsellor was now evident;

The yearning of Prince of Peace had been born;

The longing of a promised Messiah had now been fulfilled.

Thanks be to God !!

Christmas Day Prayer

 God Immanuel

May we marvel at the heavenly stars,

made by your creative Spirit;

yet recognise that you are the brightest star laying in a bed made of straw.

As the stars continue to shine in the night skies,

we no longer need to look heavenward to search for you,

for you have come to us.

 Bless as our eyes move

from the heavens to the earth.

and join in the angels song of Proclamation

Glory to God in the highest heaven

       and peace to those on earth.

Amen

Advent 2- Stars in the Heavens – Friday 8th December – Jeremiah 1: 4-10

Then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth; and the Lord said to me, ‘Now I have put my words in your mouth. v9

Yesterday we heard about Paul speaking to the church in   Thessalonica. Today we read about God speaking directly to the young boy Jeremiah, who will become Gods Prophet and mouthpiece. Passing on the story of a God who brings hope and promise into the world is not just for adults, children play a part too. I know many children who have brought their parents to faith, by their commitment to Jesus as a role model, teacher and friend. Evangelism is done by anyone who loves the Lord,  whatever age. So see the adoration in the eyes of a child as they hear and act the Christmas story again, and be inspired and moved.

Give thanks for the words of children who have moved us and continue to move us as they blossom into shining stars that point us to Jesus Amen

Advent 2 – Stars in the heavens – Thursday 7th December – 1 Thessalonians 1:2-10

For we know, brothers and sisters beloved by God, that he has chosen you, v4

Are we still excited about the Christmas story, or has it been consumed into the annual 21st-century shopping event? Sharing the good news about Christmas is important and is our responsibility, for without Christmas we would not have Easter, and without Easter we would not have Jesus Christ whom we follow and are his disciples. Sharing our faith is not something that comes easy to most people, however God has chosen us to pass on to the message of hope and promise to the people whether to friend or stranger.

Why did you choose me Lord?  I am fearful of being judged when I talk and my faith, give me the words to say with love and conviction. Amen
